The State of Racial Disparities in Charleston County, South Carolina 2000-2015

This report highlights the social and economic conditions disproportionately impacting Charleston county's black population. 

  • Of the district’s 3,312 teachers, 72 (less than one percent) are black men compared to 456 (14%) white men.
  • In 2015, total numbers of death were 582 and 1,040 for black and white and males respectively.
  • In 2015, unemployment rate was 9.4% for black males aged 16 and above in Charleston county.
