- In 2009-10, 29 (0.4 percent) of African American males had a perfect score on the CST, 27 were in math and two were in ELA. Similarly in 2010-11, 26 African American males had perfect CST scores, with 26 in math. Four of these students scored perfectly two years in a row.
- Roughly half the students in both years were identified as gifted.
- One of the students from the 2009-10 group, and two from the 2010-11 group were chronically absent from school. From the entire OUSD system, 23 percent of African American males are chronically absent.
- Nine percent of African American male elementary school students in OUSD were suspended once or more in 2009-10; from the 29 students in the group, one student had one suspension.
