This report looks at the African American boys in the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) who scored perfect on the California Standards Tests (CST) in the 2009-10 and 2010-11 school year.
In 2009-10, 29 (0.4 percent) of African American males had a perfect score on the CST, 27 were in math and two were in ELA. Similarly in 2010-11, 26 African American males had perfect CST scores, with 26 in math. Four of these students scored perfectly two years in a row. Tweet

One of the students from the 2009-10 group, and two from the 2010-11 group were chronically absent from school. From the entire OUSD system, 23 percent of African American males are chronically absent. Tweet
Nine percent of African American male elementary school students in OUSD were suspended once or more in 2009-10; from the 29 students in the group, one student had one suspension. Tweet
